Best Rafting Experiences in Bali

Ayung versus Telaga Waja, what grade the rapids really are, and what the day involves.

Best Rafting Experiences in Bali

Bali has two rafting rivers worth the trip. The Ayung, near Ubud, runs grade II–III over about 12 kilometres and is the right call for families and first-timers. The Telaga Waja in the east is faster, more technical, and includes a drop that will get everyone in the boat wet.

What the day looks like

Pickup, a drive to the put-in, a briefing, then two hours on the water. Both rivers involve a stepped descent to the river and a climb back out — several hundred steps at the Ayung. Lunch is usually included at the finish.

Who it suits

The Ayung takes children from around 9. Telaga Waja operators generally set a higher minimum age. You do not need to be a strong swimmer, but you should be comfortable in water.

Season

Rafting runs year round. After heavy rain the rivers rise and trips can be rescheduled for safety — that is a good sign, not a bad one.
