Balinese Cooking Class & Market Walk

About this experience

The morning starts at a local market in Ubud where the host walks you through the ingredients that define Balinese food — galangal, kencur, candlenut, palm sugar — and what to look for when buying them. From there you move to a family compound kitchen and build base gede, the spice paste underpinning most Balinese cooking, grinding it by hand in a stone mortar. You then cook six dishes including sate lilit, lawar, and a vegetable urab, and eat everything together at the end. Recipes are sent by email afterwards.
